Commemorating the Rich History and Legacy of MGM Allied Health Sciences Institute

About Us

To commemorate in obeisance to the indomitable legacy of MGM Allied Health Sciences Institute (MAHSI), formerly called the School of Physiotherapy, MGM Medical College, Indore, it is my privilege to present the glory of MAHSI we have been preserving for 25 years. This edition is dedicated to our Silver Jubilee Celebration. Going through the maze of history is an arduous task, but worth it.

Starting with our foundation, when 25 years back Dr. D.K. Taneja, a renowned Orthopaedic Surgeon and Dean of MGM Medical College, felt the need for a Physiotherapy College and met Mr. Narendra Nahata, former Minister, who approved the idea of opening a School of Physiotherapy. On 26th July 1997, the Government of Madhya Pradesh granted permission through the Medical Education Department, Bhopal, for the course of Bachelor of Physiotherapy under MGM Medical College and associated hospitals, Indore. Shri Sumit Bose, then Principal Secretary, Medical Education, issued the order within a few hours. Something unheard.

The golden moment of the establishment was on 27th July 1997, when the School of Physiotherapy was started in two rooms in the Department of Dermatology in M.Y. Hospital. It was the first of its kind college in the state, which was totally self-financed. MGM Medical College, Indore, has always been one of the most renowned colleges in the country, and the School of Physiotherapy was a proud addition to the MGM Medical College family.

The first batch of BPT in 1997 started with 27 students on 30 seats. The Advisory Committee, Officers in charge, and Members of the Committee were appointed, and an extensive search was made for qualified staff. The School of Physiotherapy welcomed the gems of the field, including Dr. P.S. Narkar, who was appointed as the first Vice-Principal of SOP. Over the years, the institution has expanded, and with the blessings of Ms. Aruna Sharma (then Principal Secretary), SOP received permission for a Master’s in Physiotherapy and Bachelor of Occupational Therapy in 2022.

In 1998, the School was shifted to the corridors of the medicine OPD, and in 2012, the SOP moved to the newly established Dr. Rajendra Dharkar OPD of MYH. A well-equipped OPD with modern electrical and mechanical modalities was established, and the first batch of MPT in four branches was welcomed.

2018 marked the beginning of a new era with the establishment of MGM Allied Health Sciences Institute (MAHSI). Mr. R.S. Julaniya (Retd. IAS)(Former ACS, Dept. of Medical Education) & Dr. D.K. Taneja former (Former Dean & CEO MGM Medical Collage Indore) were instrumental in bringing this idea to fruition. Since then, MAHSI has continuously grown, with an expanded campus, modern amenities, and a significant increase in courses, staff, and students.

MAHSI is a real example of “Coming across a long way.” From its humble beginnings to the thriving institution it is today, it has produced exceptional students and alumni making a mark worldwide. With 25 years of legacy, MAHSI continues to work towards its vision of becoming the best allied health sciences institute in the country.

Institute have signed MOU with Manchester Metropolitan University, UK, to facilitate faculty, student exchange, and research. With ongoing efforts like the establishment of the Sports Injury Centre and the enhancement of our library with the latest books, MAHSI is poised for an even brighter future.

Institute is forever grateful to those who have contributed to our success.
